prop_conv utility available for download

My conversion utility prop_conv (conversion of concentrations, densities and osmotic coefficients of electrolyte solutions) is now available for download. Similarly to pyOZ, an iterative solver of the Ornstein-Zernike equation, it is written in Python programming language and released under the BSD license.

Check it out, I hope it will be useful… the code is available through the Miscellaneous section, or directly in the Downloads section of the pyOZ homepage.

Facebook profile…

… after a long hesitation, I also created my profile on Facebook. The link to the profile was added to the left sidebar (it’s the small blue square icon with white letter f inside). Good thing is, that Facebook now supports human-readable profile names and web links.

My profile name is lubos.vrbka. I know, not much invention… but it’s good to be consistent, at least sometimes.

Let’s see now how many people I know I am going to find there. So far I am quite impressed.

Categories and content update

Continuing the update of the presentation (merging some categories, removing unnecessary stuff, …), I realized that the widget allowing to show the list of links with arbitrary ordering (My Link Order) doesn’t seem to display anything… strange. At the moment, there are both Link and My Link Order installed, but just the former works. Will have to find out what’s up…

… it turns out, that it is necessary to re-configure My Link Order – it’s probably somehow connected with the fact that both WordPress and My Link Order were updated recently. But now, everything is as it should be.

WordPress update

The time has come to perform another upgrade of my WordPress installation, this time to the version 2.8.

As usually, the upgrade process went automatically and smoothly. The new version has an impressive list of new features… let’s hope it will work as good as the old one. There is no need to doubt it, since it WordPress has always worked for me without any problems.

At the same time, I made some changes to my Resume and also to the organization of the Research section (named now Professional). This should help to keep things clearer, particularly in the future…

Facebook-WordPress connect

I am just trying connecting my Facebook account with my WordPress blog. If everything works OK, then all new posts (including this one) and pages should be displayed in Facebook as well – that would indeed be fine…

… and since it isn’t OK and doesn’t fullfill my expectations and requirements, I deactivated it again. This means, that all new posts will have to be added manually to my Facebook Wall. This indeed sux, but it could be much worse…

Restaurant guide update

We visited quite a few different restaurants in the last days… today, the restaurant guide (Where to eat in Regensburg – Essen in Regensburg – Kam se jít najíst v Regensburgu) was finally updated to contain the complete information.

V posledních dnech a týdnech jsme navštívili větší množství restaurací. Dnes jsem konečně doplnil všechny chybějící informace na stránce věnované možnostem gastronomického vyžití v Regensburgu (Where to eat in Regensburg – Essen in Regensburg – Kam se jít najíst v Regensburgu).

Categories changed

In order to allow for easier and more consistent navigation through the posts, some of the post categories were changed.

The former categories Research and Teaching were merged with Professional. Culinary stuff and Photography are now separated from Personal. Technology includes posts related to this site and also to Linux, notebooks and other stuff.

Nokia 6680 synchronization with Evolution over Bluetooth (Debian Linux)

Having only one USB cable and two computers I want to synchronize with my phone and being lazy to carry the cable with me all the time, I was “forced” to get also the other connection possibility – Bluetooth – working. It wasn’t that hard actually, but there are some details which I would like to share, anyway.

This post is a direct continuation of my previous text concerning the USB connection. At the same time, for example the packages-to-install list is incremental, i.e., it’s expected that you already have all the packages installed which were discussed previously!

In addition to the pages referenced in the other post, I found another one quite useful.

Culinary update

After our visit to the Rosenpalais (former 1-Michelin star restaurant), the page with the information about the eating possibilities in Regensburg (Where to eat in Regensburg – Essen in Regensburg – Kam se jít najíst v Regensburgu) was updated.

Actually, two more places were added to the page – the chinese/mongolese Shangri-La and cafe/bar/restaurant Felix.

There are still some places on our to-go list, but it seems now, that we won’t be able to manage them all in the remaining time. Well, let’s keep something for the future visits…

Nokia 6680 synchronization with Evolution over USB (Debian Linux)

I managed to get synchronization over USB between my Nokia 6680 mobile phone and Evolution on Debian Linux (Lenny) working. It took me quite some time to get all the necessary information, but the following set-up and configuration was actually quite easy.

I found the following pages very useful:

  • udev related stuff in order to get communication running even for non-root user – link
  • Nokia-Evolution Ubuntu site – link
  • msynctool-related info, filtering – link

The discussion in this post is based on the information I found in these links. Large parts of the document are taken from the pages above. I just want to have a copy here in case the original pages are not available any longer… and of course it’s easier for me to have all information on my web…
